A Taylor-Made Girls Meet Record,
Plus A Hugh-ge Boys Mark As Well

(September 4, 2009) -- Jacque Taylor looked like a million bucks for a little over a thousand seconds on Friday. The Casa Grande HS senior torched the trails at Rohnert Park to crush her own meet record by 44 seconds in winning the girls race at the Rancho Cotate Invitational. Taylor, a premier talent on the national scene, won the 2.97-mile challenge over Montgomery's Julie Nacouzy in a time of 17:03 (1,023 seconds). Nacouzim clocked in 17:28, also bettered Taylor's old meet standard by 19 seconds. The individual win by Taylor also sparked the team triumph as the Gauchos upended pernennial local power Maria Carrillo, 54-68.
Although the margin was not as lopsided, the outcome in the boys race was just as historic. Petaluma senior Hugh Dowdy roared across terrain to win in 15:20, submarining former teammate Sterling Lockert's meet record (15:11) in the process. Dowdy, who finished 28th in the state meet in Division III last year, topped Santa Rosa's Reesey Beyers, who placed 66th at state in Division II before a big track season breakthrough. Dowdy's single point factored in Petaluma's closer-than-expected 43-49 team win over Maria Carrilo. Petaluma' scoring punch gapped 74 seconds.
