The Shafter High boys and girls defended their S.S.L. League team titles today at the North Kern Golf Course. The
conditions on this day were almost ideal in that is was overcast with temperatures in the low 70's. The course was
a challenging course with rarely a flat stretch in sight and it was run on grass or dirt the entire way.

Shafter High was the host for the S.S.L. league meet. The 5k course ran around the perimeter of the golf course.
Which was almost 2 miles in length and was slightly uphill for half of it. The last mile went uphill for the first part
and then had a dramatic mostly downhill finish.

In the girls race, Shafter had three girls in the top four and their scoring five were in the top eleven overall. Taft
High came in second with four athletes in the top ten as well.

On the individual side Moriah Millwee (So) lead the Generals to the team title with a convincing win over Taft's
Megan Thompson (Sr) At two miles they were running side by side but in the last mile Millwee pulled away for
the win.

Last track season, Millwee posted a 12:20 3200 at the Reedley Invite and Thompson ran a 2:19.20 (800) and a
5:24.29 (1600).

In the boy's race, senior Bear Juan Calderon took the lead from the start and increased his lead throughout the
race. Shafter's Jesus Villapondo came in second overall despite suffering from the flu.

Shafter took the team title over Wasco with each school placing four in the top ten. Shafter's 5th and 6th athletes
came in 11th and 12th for the team win
