Kieren Broussard (Rodriguez, Fairfield) and Holly Rankin (Tokay, Lodi) started off their
2009 Sac Joaquin Fall campaigns in fine style on a warm day at the Delta Kings Invite
at Oak Grove Park in Stockton. Broussard, twelth last year in the Section Division I
CC Finals, and with a 1:56 in track for 800 meters, looks ready to roll in his senior year, as
he won by a couple seconds 16:12-16:14 over Alejandro Garcia (Ceres) in the Boys Varsity
run. Holly Rankin, a 4.5 student who ran 11:48 last spring for 3200 meters, is bent on some
revenge after not making the State Meet from the 2008 Sac Joaquin CC Finals run after a
second in the Sub-Sections. Here she had an over 30 second win at 19:54 on the Girls' side.
St. Mary's (Stockton) took the Girls' team title with 43 over the 64 of Rodriguez, with SM
rated just outside the top five in the area pre-season Division III listings. Ponderosa emerged
the Boys' team winners with 57 points over Riverbank's 78, with Ponderosa showing some
real potential for the Fall here.
