BCL East League Finals
MacDonald CR leads Redwood Christian Boys to win - College Prep Girls champs
BCL EAST LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS AND RACE SUMMARY NOVEMBER 10, 2009 2.6 MILES AT JOAQUIN MILLER PARK, OAKLAND
JOSH MACDONALD SMASHES OWN COURSE RECORD COLLEGE PREP GIRLS SWEEP TOP FIVE PLACES
Josh MacDonald from Redwood Christian took advantage of absolutely perfect running conditions to lay down a stunning time on the short but difficult Joaquin Miller Park course. Josh’s time of 14:04 was 25 seconds faster than his old course record, which he set at the league championships last year. Josh is surely the odds-on favorite to win the individual title in the Division V race at NCS.
Redwood Christian also won the boys team title by a convincing margin, scoring 32 points. If they can get their top five runners to the line healthy at NCS, they will be a serious contender for the Division V team title. College Prep finished second with 65 points, and although they lack the firepower up front that they have had in previous years, their outstanding team depth should allow them to finish in the top five at NCS, and qualify for the state race.
Individual runners who are capable of qualifying for the state race from NCS are Mercer Cook of Head-Royce and Jordan Lee of Chinese Christian, who took 3rd and 4th place at the league championship race.
College Prep’s girls steamrolled the rest of the league, taking the top five places and finishing with a perfect score of 15. Kai Wilson’s winning time of 16:46 was the second fastest time ever run on the course (trailing only the 15:35 of Head-Royce’s Clara Horowitz), and Adrienne Strait’s time of 17:05 was the fourth fastest time ever run on the course. Given College Prep’s strong front-runners and outstanding team depth, they must now be favored to win the team title at NCS, although the University girls may have something to say about that.
