Big Bear boys & Yucca Valley girls continue streaks!

(--) The 2009 version of the De Anza League Finals took place in Yucca Valley at Machris Park. A last minute
course change took place due to RCC feeling the budget crunch and starting to charge for the use of their facilities.
So the De Anza League moved to the Hi-Desert Classic Course.
Cool weather with a slight breeze, helped the league run competitive times for the challenging course. As the day came
to a close, there were no surprises from event. As has been the norm for the last 5 years, Big Bear boys captured their
6th title in a row, the only change was the name at the top. Jake Murie, coming back from surgery, took individual honors
in 16:31. He was followed by Team mates Kevin Magdiel (16:37), & Roy Bowling (17:01). Mike Korcha (17:06) & Eric
Snyder (17:14) of Yucca Valley rounded out the top five.
Big Bear dominated the team scores, totaling 19 points to to Yucca Valley's 40. 29 Palms rounded out the CIF qualifiers
with 91 points.
On the girls side, Yucca Valley swept its way through to a perfect score of 15 points. In a mild upset, 29 Palms took over
2nd place from Big Bear by 7 points, scoring 60 to Big Bear's 67.
Individually, After finishing 2nd two years in a row, Harlie Hitchcock led the way for the Trojans, running 19:59 for the league
title. She was followed by Jackie Fox in 20:48, Chelsea Watkins-20:53, Nicole Watkins-20:57, & Kelcie Adams-21:20.
Cameo Lakey (21:28) led the way for 29 Palms in 6th and Jessica Watterson (21:41) was Big Bear's first runner in 7th.
The JV Boys had Big Bear winning over Desert Hot Springs 15-55. Justin Lewis of Big Bear won the race by 1 second over
Yucca Valley's Bruce Gabbard, covering the course in 19:03.
There were no team scores in the JV Girls, but Sophia Bonelli of Yucca Valley won in 21:36 over Megan Tree of 29 Palms.
