Lynbrook XC, Mission Statement

Mission #1: To develop life long athletes who understand the importance of physical training in preparation for athletic competition, and who continue a healthy lifestyle after graduation.

Mission #2: Utilize the Life Lessons that are learned through the sport of Cross-Country from the coaches, parents and peers that demonstrate our Core Values of respect, responsibility, honesty, fairness and compassion not only within the Cross-Country Team Family but with everyone they encounter.

In order to be a productive member of the team, the coaches feel that:

Summer Program - Meet every Monday & Wednesday for the opportunity to run with teammates and others, to catch up on what the 'XC Family' has been up to and further develop the bond among athletes and coaches. The athletes of today are the leaders of tommorrow and there must be mentors, role models and peers involved to continue the progression of these future leaders.

300/500 Mile Club - To set a goal to either complete 300 or 500 miles in 60 days. Helps to encourage dedication of acheiveing ones goals and gets you in great shape at the same time. A shirt is awarded to those who complete the milestone, and their names are added to the 300/500 Club Members list.

MAJOR MEETS:

- Lynbrook hosts two meets a year. One at the beginning of the season and one at the end of the season. This allows athletes to see how much we improve during the course of the season.

- Pepperdine Invite. An overnighter at the most beautiful course in California (if not in the Nation). Team building Charades on the 3rd Street Prominade and finish off with a day at Magic Mountain. Last ride is Bumper Cars where everyone gangs up on the coach.

- Monterey Bay Invite in Salinas every other year (when this is the CCS championship course) which is an all day affair. Gives Varsity a chance to run on the course, and gives others a chance to see the CCS course where they may run one day.

- Artichoke Invite in Half Moon Bay. Where stopping at the Pumpkin Patch on the way back home is as much fun as the afternoon races.

- Iolani Invite (Oahu) which we do every 3 years taking the Varsity Boys and Girls squad. An experience that they will never forget.

- Various other Center Meets throughout the season.

PARTIES and other FUN STUFF:

- 'Fun Fridays': either food runs, Rallye Run, Hash Run, Scavenger Hunt, Turf & Surf, etc.

- Weight lifting twice a week (days change weekly).

- Pasta Feeds at individual homes before every meet. Time to further get to know the kids and the parents as well.

- Snacks are supplied by parents at every meet.

- End of year Awards Banquet where athletes & Seniors are recognized. Highlites/Lowlites are covered. Slide show. Senior books and gifts.
