Pride of the
Valley 5K Run
The
City of Baldwin Park is hosting its 13th Annual Pride of the Valley
Run on Saturday, August 3, 2007 at the Esther Snyder Community Center. The
event will begin a 7:30 am and will conclude at 11am. Since the first Pride of
the Valley 5K Run in 1995, participants from all over Southern California have
come to compete.
Due to the increasing
interest in running from age-group runners, the City of Baldwin Park added a
High School Road Race to its Annual Pride of the Valley 5K Run in 1997. Since
its introduction, the High School Road Race has attracted runners and teams
from high schools all over Southern California and set many course records in
the spirit of competition and fun.
One of the biggest
attractions of the High School Road Race is the element of team competition.
High school runners can form teams and compete as a team and still be eligible
for individual awards. Awards go to the top three overall boys team & top
three overall girls team in the high school age group and younger. Competing as
a team as well as an individual gives runners more opportunities to compete and
win.
Teams may be created by
any groups either forming all male teams or all female teams. To avoid any
conflicts, team names may not be the name of a high school, no high school
uniforms may be worn, and no high school name affiliation may be used, as teams
will compete unattached from their high schools.
Another appealing factor
that has drawn in students to the High School Road Race is that it provides the
perfect opportunity for high school students to measure improvement for their
upcoming year. The High School Road Race is a flat course and extremely fast.
High school students will have the opportunity to win individual awards, team
awards, and compete against other high school teams as well as older and
younger age groups.
High School students are
invited to come and compete in the High School Road Race against the best from
all over Southern California.
