XC Rankings Index

Week #2 of the season brings us several more quality meets throughout California.  Here's the weekly rundown of what to look for:

Laguna Hills Cross Country Invitational (SS) - Like many early season meets, Laguna Hills has all grade-level racing so we won't see varsity teams compete directly.  Boys competition will be fierce as #1 Arcadia, #2 Dana Hills, #10 Warren, and #20 Canyon of Anaheim open their seasons at the Laguna Hills XC Invtational.  The individual competiton will be one to watch as well with Arcadia's Estevan De La Rosa is set to scorch the course. In the sophomore boys race, look for Arcadia's Phillip Rocha to go head to head with Dana's Jake Ogden. In girls competiton, no less that five top-25 girls teams are competing with #6 Capistrano Valley, #13 Yucaipa,  #15 Mira Costa, #18 San Clemente, and #25 Northwood. Northwood's Bethan Knights figures to be the favorite individually. DyeStatCAL will be there to video all the races!

Fastback Shootout (SS) - The #1 ranked Simi Valley girls will once again open their season at Fastback, with now senior Sarah Baxter (US #2) at the helm. Also featured in the girls race is #6 Great Oak, though they will not be running several of their top varsity girls. At #6, Great Oak is the top-ranked team in a deep boys field.  They can expect a strong challenge from the boys from #8 Westlake.  with #13 Fountain Valley, #15 Long Beach Poly, and #19 Glendora giving chase. Grade level racing here, but we'll calculate merged scores just for fun.

Ed Sias Inviational (NCS) - Up in the NCS we have a very quality meet in the Ed Sias Invitational.  In the girls competion, 11th ranked host Campolindo will take on #2 St. Francis of Sacramento. On the boys side we'll get our first look at #3 ranked powerhouse De La Salle

Rosmead Invitational (SS) - The boys lineup is strong at the Rosemead Invitational, with #9 Loyola, #12 St. John Bosco, and #16 El Modena entered in grade level races.

Sac State Hornet Jamboree (SJS) - Finally in the Sac-Joaquin Section, the Sac State Hornet Jamoree is one to watch with the #8 Davis Senior girls and the #23 Del Campo Boys entered.

With so many nice matchups, week 2 is likely to shake up the Top 25, though most of the competions are between teams in their homes sections. We will have to wait another week to really see how these teams compare across the state. Check our XC Rankings Index for all the rankings.  Once again, below is a summary of who's where by meet and rank:
