Former Tulsa Standout and 2016 Olympian Announces End Of Pro Racing Career

Chris O'Hare, a two-time Wanamaker Mile champion at the Millrose Games among many laurels as an elite miler, announced his retirement Tuesday. 

O'Hare, who grew up in Scotland and came to the U.S. to run for the University of Tulsa, was an NCAA Division 1 Indoor mile champion in 2012. A year later, he represented Great Britain at the 2013 World Championships, the first Scottish athlete in 35 years to become the top-ranked 1,500-meter runner in the U.K.

He won the Wanamaker Mile titles at the 2018 and 2020 Millrose Games, and in 2015 he became the 100th man to break the four-minute mile barrier at The Armory in New York City with his sixth-place finish in the Wanamaker that year. 

He competed in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, but did not advance out of the semifinals of the 1,500 meters. 

He retires with a lifetime-best 3:53.34 in the mile (2017 Pre Classic) and 3:32.11 in the 1,500 meters (2018 Monaco).
