Richardson, Bednarek Win 100 Meters Races In Los Angeles

Tara Davis-Woodhall, returing to her Southern California roots, put on a show Sunday at the USATF LA Grand Prix at Allyson Felix Field on the campus of USC.

She made a spirited return to the 100-meter hurdles and finished second behind Olympic champion Masai Russell in a personal best 12.47 seconds. It was Davis-Woodhall's second outdoor hurdles race in five years.

Then, Davis-Woodhall won the long jump with 7.25m (23-9.50), but that was wind-aided (+3.3). She also had a legal 7.20m jump (23-7.50) that took over the world lead from NCAA champion Alyssa Jones of Stanford. 

Sunday's domestic racing opportunity was part of the USATF Tour. 

Russell's winning time in the hurdles was 12.26. 

Jamal Britt won the men's 110-meter hurdles in 12.99, defeating Trey Cunningham (13.03) and Cordell Tinch (13.15). 

In a meeting of former USC Trojans, Anna Cockrell defeated Dalilah Muhammad in the women's 400-meter hurdles in a meet record time of 53.43 seconds. Muhammad was second in 53.65.

Sha'Carri Richardson opened her season with an encouraging victory in the 100 meters in 10.98 seconds.

Kenneth Bednarek won the men's 100 meters in a time of 9.72 seconds that was slightly wind-aided (+2.2). 

Emily Mackay won the women's 1,500 meters in 3:59.26.

South African Tshepo Tshite beat Cole Hocker in the men's 3,000 meters, 7:37.57 to 7:37.77. Eduardo Herrera, a former California prep representing Mexico, was third in 7:38.53.

Brandon Miller won the men's 800 meters in a season's best time of 1:43.94.

In the women's 400 meters, Aaliyah Butler won with a time of 49.90 seconds. 

Chris Bailey won the men's 400 meters in 44.57 seconds. 

Gabrielle Jennings took the lead in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase after the first mile and ran away with a victory in 9:11.72, breaking the meet record. 

Favour Ofili won the women's 200 meters in 22.45. 

Chase Jackson started the women's shot put competition off with a bang when she hit 20.53m (67-4.25) for a meet record on her first attempt. Four days earlier in Oslo, Jackson threw a season's best 20.74m. 

Canadian Sarah Mitton was second with 20.15m (66-1.50). 

Valarie Sion also broke a meet record in the discus with a flight of 69.15m (226-10). 

Erika Beistle was second with 65.02m (213-4). 

Rajindra Campbell of Jamaica beat Americans Jordan Geist, Joe Kovacs and Roger Steen in the men's shot put. Campbell threw 21.94m (71-11.75).
