Nicole McKenzie, Abdullahi Hassan Win 800 Meters Titles

Ethan Katzberg won his fourth straight national title in the men's hammer at the Canadian Track and Field Championships presented by Bell on Saturday in Ottawa.

The reigning world and Olympic champion threw 81.13m (266-2) and five of his six throws were long enough that they would have won the competition. 

Rowan Hamilton, the 2024 NCAA champion, made a strong effort to finish second with 75.45m (247-6).

Julia Tunks, who turns 20 next month, won her third women's discus title at the national championships with 57.97m (190-2). 

In an exciting women's 800 meters final, Nicole McKenzie barely held off Maeliss Trapeau to reach the finish line in 2:01.92. Trapeau's lean was a bit too short and she finished in 2:01.95. 

With global medalist and Canadian record holder Marco Arop not competing, Abdullahi Hassan filled the void and won the men's 800 meters title in 1:46.75. 

Tatiana Aholou won the women's 100-meter hurdles in a time of 12.82 seconds. 

In the U20 women's 100 hurdles final, Jordynn Scott ran 13.33 for the win. 

Craig Thorne prevailed in the men's 110-meter hurdles with 13.66 seconds. In the U20 final, with a shorter hurdles height, Kieran Barnewall ran the same time, 13.66, to win.
