Javelin Takes Center Stage This Weekend In East Stroudsburg

The  American JavFest will be contested on Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, at East Stroudsburg South High School, in East Stroudsburg, Pa.

The 12th annual event will be the largest javelin throwing event in the United States.  A record 200+ athletes from 26 states and one Canadian province are competing over the two-day competition. 

World Championships bronze medalist Curtis Thompson is set to return after a year hiatus. His bronze medal last fall in Tokyo was the first by an American since 2007 when Breaux Greer won the bronze in Osaka, Japan with a mark of 86.21m  (282-10).

Thompson’s mark of 86.67m (284-4) was shy of his best mark of 87.76m (287-11) set at the 2025 Texas Relays. 

Here is a list of this year's top entries:

Men 

Curtis Thompson - He threw a season's best 85.99s (282-1) in placing third at the Diamond League Doha meeting on June 19. He also placed third at the Rome Golden Gala 83.89m (275-2). He is currently ranked fifth in the World and No. 1 in the USA by World Athletics.

Jordan Davis - Davis threw a season best of 80.38m (263-8) at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational on March 28. It was his best throw since his personal best of 84.45m (277-0) set in winning the 2025 NCAA Division 2 Outdoor Championship competing for Southern Connecticut. This past year he placed fourth at the NCAA D1 Championships 77.83m (255-4) and second at the SEC Championships 79.59 (261-1) competing for the University of Georgia. He is currently ranked No. 3 in the USA by World Athletics.

Nicholas Reynolds - Reynolds threw a personal best of 77.55m (254-5) at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial Invitational on May 2. The University of Georgia rising junior placed fifth at the NCAA D1 Championships with 77.43m (254-0) and was fourth at the SEC Championships 76.72m (251-8). He is currently ranked seventh in the USA.

Callan Saldutto - Saldutto was third at the 2025 NCAA D1 Championships with 76.88m (252-3) competing for the University of Missouri. He won the gold medal at the Canadian Championships in 2025 72.52m (237-11). 

Damitrius Hester - Hester won the NCAA D3 Championships with a personal best of 74.94m (245-10) on May 23 competing for Rowan. He improved on his third place finish 65.00m (213-3) from his freshman year. He has improved by nearly 30 feet in the past year.

Women 

Madison Wiltrout - The 27 year old Wiltrout, a Pennsylvania prep legend and national high school record holder, threw a personal best 63.88m (209-7) on May 23 at the Tucson Elite Classic at the University of Arizona’s Roy O. Drachman stadium. That was the No. 3 throw in the world this season and moved her to sixth on the all-time U.S. list. She has finished no worse than third in her seven competitions this season, including a big win at the Drake Relays.

Sarah Blake - Blake set a personal best of 59.71m (195-10) at the Tucson Elite Classic at the University of Arizona’s Roy O. Drachman stadium on May 23. Her next best mark was a 52.84m (173-4) at the Iron Wood Classic on June 20.

Skylar Ciccolini - The University of Missouri standout threw a new personal best of 57.45m (188-5) on March 20 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. She finished 19th at the NCAA D1 Championships 48.82m (160-2) and was fourth at the SEC Championships 55.54m (165-8). 

Shea Greene - Greene threw a season’s best of 56.76m (186-2) on April 11 at the Spec Towns Classic at the University of Georgia. She placed seventh at the NCAA D1 Championships 54.90m (180-1) competing for Princeton. The senior won her third consecutive Ivy League Heptagonal championship.

Ariana Ince - The fourth-longest thrower in American history, 64.38m (211-2), she threw a season's best of 56.23m (184-5) at the Drake Relays in Des Moines on April 26. 

Boys

Isaac Herzenberg - The Metairie Park Country Day LA senior threw a U.S.-leading 69.79m (229-0) on June 1 at the Summer Sizzler Throws meet in Baton Rouge, La. He finished the regular season as a four-time Class 2A Louisiana state champion.

Hunter Pitcavage - The Dallas PA junior won the Nike Outdoor Nationals title in a personal best and US#4 68.28m (224-0). That was nearly 10-foot improvement over his previous best. He also had a 68.22m (223-10) throw in the fifth round, which bettered his previous best. 

Ethan Reed - The Southern Columbia Area PA senior won the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Championship with a personal best and US#8 of 66.80m (219-2). At the USATF U20 meet in Eugene, he finished seventh with 60.9m0 (199-9).

Walker Ferguson - The Mauldin SC junior finished fourth at the Nike Outdoor Nationals 64.19m (210-7). That was shy of his personal best, a US#7 and winning mark of 67.00m (219-10) at the Under Armor Championships in Bradenton, Fla. on May 31. He won his second consecutive South Carolina high school title during the regular season. 

Leighton Little -  The St. David’s NC junior set his personal best and US#6 mark of 67.13m (220-3) at the Summer Sizzler throws meet #1 on May 29. He finished fifth at the Nike Outdoor Nationals 63.58m (208-7) in the most competitive boys javelin competition in meet history.

Kelson Hogan - The Corona del Sol junior set his personal best and US#10 66.04m (216-8) at the Arizona USATF Junior Olympic Championships. He finished third at the Nike Outdoor Nationals 65.27m (214-2) and 11th at the USATF U20 Championships 58.02m (190-4).

Girls 

Marissa Rystadt - The junior from Jesuit OR won the Oregon 6A state championship 45.51m (149-4) and finished fourth at the Nike Outdoor Nationals 46.08m (144-7). She threw her personal best of 47.11m (154-7) in her season opener on April 15. 

AnnaJo Hill - The Helias Catholic MO junior finished seventh at the Nike Outdoor Nationals 42.32m (138-10). 

Mercedes Gilroy - The Mead WA junior finished third at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in a personal best 46.48m (152-6).  She won her second consecutive Washington State javelin championship with a throw of 44.88m (147-3). 

Morgan O'Hara - The Upper Perkiomen PA senior set her personal best of 45.36m (148-10) at the PIAA District Championship where she placed third. She finished fourth at the PIAA Championship 42.90m (140-9) and third at the New Balance National Outdoor Championships 42.08m (138-1). She finished 19th at Nike Outdoor Nationals 37.25m (122-2).

Elizabeth Sauby – The Pine Crest FL junior won the FSU Relays with a personal best of 44.22m (145-1). She won her first Florida state title of her high school career with her second best mark of her career 43.27m (141-11).

Stella Goss - The Hotchkiss CT senior won the New England Preparatory Track Association D1 title for the second consecutive year with a mark of 39.47m (129-6). She set her personal best of 42.72m (140-2) at the Hunt Relays on April 18.
