Taylor Foster Shines In Hurdles; Ibrahim Ford, Sloan Wasserman Win Steeplehase Crowns

Senior Taylor Foster from Brearley School produced one of the top performances at New York state championships in the 100-meter hurdles. She won the Class C title in 13.68 and then took on the top athletes from the bigger schools and won the overall state title in 13.56 seconds, June 13-14 in Webster. 

Maggie McCormick of Bay Shore won the girls 1,500 meters in a personal best time of 4:17.87. 

Adrianna Pettinelli, a sophomore from Scarsdale, won the girls 800 meters championship in 2:07.40 and was second to McCormick in the 1,500 in 4:21.09. 

Ibrahim Ford from Arkpoint-Canaseraga ran a US#1 time of 9:05.51 to win the 3,000-meter steeplehase. That moved him to No. 16 on the all-time list.

Sloan Wasserman of John Jay (Cross River) defeated Anna Furman of Tri-Valley for the girls 2,000-meter steeplechase title in 6:38.36. 

Warwick Valley's Luke Beattie, the state's top pole vaulter, won the boys 200 meters title in 21.07 seconds and helped his team place second in the 4x100 relay. 

In a girls high jump competition featuring a pair of U.S. top five performers, Ella Michtelich of Minisink Valley cleared 5-10 to win the title and Kate Voelker of Manhasset was second at 5-8. 

Ava Weiss of Columbia ran a state-leading time of 59.94 to win the girls 400-meter hurdles. 

Meaghan Lynch of Schuylerville Central won the Class C long jump with 20-5.50 and the triple jump with 39-0.

Anna Eells from Cisero-North Syracuse jumped 41-2.75 to win the Class A triple jump.  

Kane Poje of Tri-Valley won the Class C shot put with a state-leading mark of 62-7.

Nathaniel Johnson from John Jay (East Fishkill) won the boys pentathlon with 3,636 points. A week later, he went on to win the decathlon title at New Balance Nationals Outdoor. 

Paige Fessler from Valley Stream North scored 3,521 points to win the girls pentathlon. That competition included a high jump clearance of 5-10.75.
