The Wolfpack Dominate the Cross Country Event at Temecula Valley
The Wolfpack came into Wednesdays contest and took care of business, winning the Boys and Girls Team Three Mile run and the meet. Great Oak did not finish in either of the varsity races but still took the team titles.
What makes this so amazing is that the Wolfpack did not run their top seven girls or boys in the event. They were being rested for a National Cross Country event to be held this Saturday in Texas. Vista Murrieta was second.
Murrieta Mesa’s Taylor Taite was the individual winner of the Girl’s three mile run with a time of 17:56.
Temecula Valley’s Angela Ziff was right behind her and finished second with a time of 18:09. Chandler Kerr from Chaparral was third coming in at 18:24.
In the Boys Varsity three mile run Garrett Mullinix took first place with a 15:35 effort. Temecula Valley’s Okaro Shinn stayed close with Mullinix and finished next, four seconds off the winning pace at 15:39. Connor Thurmond from Chaparral was third with a time of 15:47.
”In Cross Country individual times are fantastic to win, but it’s actually more important to win as a team’ said DyeStatCal.com Lead Videographer/Photographer Donal Pearce, . ”The top five finishers for a team contribute to the final team score.. Th team’s 6th or 7th finisher, while not scoring points for their team can actually still contribute because the closer they finish to their top runners, they actually “displace” other team’s finishers! Quite a strategy is involved”.
